Should event photos be candid or posed?
A mix. Posed photos have a place: group photos, the board, the sponsors, the team. But I lean toward documenting what actually happened and who was there together.
Why do candid photos matter?
Real moments are the ones you can’t rewrite and you can’t generate. In a world where anything can be made on a screen, a photograph of people who were actually in the room is worth more. It’s a great thing to witness and be part of, and people love candid photos of themselves and their colleagues.
When do I push for posed photos?
For the ones you’ll need on purpose: the group photo, leadership, sponsors, anyone whose picture has to be in the recap. Put them on the shot list and I’ll make them happen, quickly, so they don’t take over the day. Here’s what goes on a shot list.
What if I want a more polished look?
If you want editorial, that’s a different kind of session, and we can schedule one separately. For an event, documenting what happened usually serves you better, and it’s what most people end up using. If you want leadership portraits, here’s how portraits for a whole team work.
Where I work
I’m based in Northern Virginia and most of my work is around DC, so inside the DC metro there’s no travel line on your budget.
