Questions
The things people ask before they book, answered the way I'd answer them on the phone. The short version on money: a full day on site is $5,200, and shorter days are quoted from there.
Conferences
Do you cover the whole program, or just the keynote?
The whole program. Keynotes, breakouts, panels, sponsor moments, and the candids in between.
Can we get images while the event is still running?
Yes. Highlights go out the same day, or straight to your team as the program runs. If your social lead needs something at lunch, that is fine.
What do we get afterward?
A private gallery at full resolution. Your team, your sponsors and your speakers pull from it directly.
What does it cost?
A full day on site is $5,200. A second photographer is $1,700 a day, rush delivery is $1,000. Shorter days are quoted from there. Send me the date, the venue and the hours and I'll send the number. What event photography costs walks through what moves it.
Why does it matter that you are local?
Most of my work is within an hour of home. No flight on your budget, no call time missed at Dulles, and a 6:30 load-in is a drive instead of a hotel night. It also means I know the rooms: a lot of DC venues I have already photographed an event in.
Do we pay for travel?
Not inside the DC metro. Most of my work is within an hour of home, so there is no flight on your budget and no call time missed at Dulles. Beyond the metro, travel is on me and the hotel is on you.
Galas
When do you arrive?
Before the doors open. The room dressed and empty is the frame your development team uses for the next three years of invitations, and it only exists for twenty minutes.
Do you photograph the program or the party?
Both, and they're different jobs. The program needs the speaker, the honoree and the moment the number is announced. The party needs the dance floor. I plan the night so I'm in the right place for each.
Can sponsors get their own images?
Yes. I note sponsor moments on the run of show and deliver them as a separate set so your sponsorship lead can send each one theirs the next morning.
How fast do we get pictures?
A highlight set the next morning, so your thank-you email goes out with pictures in it. The full gallery within the week.

A full day on site is $5,200. A second photographer is $1,700 a day, rush delivery is $1,000. Shorter days are quoted from there. Send me the date, the venue and the hours and I'll send the number.
Can we put people from the photos in our ads?
You're hiring me for the photographs. The people in them still own their own faces. For the everyday uses, the recap, your social posts, the newsletter, the press, your own walls, a sign at the door saying photography is happening is the normal practice. If you want a specific person on a billboard, a mailer or a paid ad, that person has to agree to it in writing. That part sits with you as the client, the same as it would with any photographer, and it's worth deciding before the shoot so we can plan those frames.
Corporate events
What counts as a corporate event?
A company gathered people and there was no program. Holiday parties, mixers, product launches, team days, networking evenings, a night at the rink. If a program runs it, it's a conference; if a cause runs it, it's a gala.
Do people mind a photographer at a party?
Not when it's done quietly. I work available light where I can and stay out of the room's way. People notice the pictures afterward, not the camera during.
Can we use the images for recruiting?
Yes, and that's usually why a company books this. A careers page with real people at a real party outperforms one with stock. The one thing to know is below: your own people in your own recruiting is everyday use; a specific face in paid advertising needs that person's written OK.
How fast?
Highlights the next morning. The full set within the week.

Portrait days
Do we need a studio?
No. The studio comes to you. While I prefer more dynamic live backgrounds, a conference room, a corner of the floor or a coworking lounge all work.
How long does a portrait day take?
It depends on how many people and how long I am on site. I can usually get 30 people completed in an hour.
What does everyone actually get?
A retouched frame of their own, consistent with everyone else photographed that day.
What does it cost?
I charge for time on site, not per person. A full day is $5,200, and most teams need a lot less than a day: thirty people fit comfortably in an hour. Send me the headcount and I'll send the number.
What should people wear?
Whatever they would wear to meet a client. What to wear for corporate portraits has the detail.
Individual portraits
Where do we do it?
Wherever the portrait is going to be used from. Your office, a room that says something about the work, or a studio setup I bring with me. The location is part of the picture, so we choose it together.
How long is a session?
An hour or two. Long enough to get past the first ten minutes, which is when a portrait starts to look like the person.
How many pictures do I get?
A short set of retouched frames, chosen with you, rather than a gallery of a hundred to sort through. Usually three to six.
Can it be more than a portrait?
Yes. A speaker needs a frame for the slide and one for the program. A founder needs one for the announcement and one for the site. We plan the set around where it's going.
What does it cost?
By the session. Tell me what it's for and I'll send the number.
Venues & spaces
Do we have to close the space for a day?
No. Empty rooms photograph best, so I work the gaps between bookings instead of asking you to give up a date.
How long does it take?
Half a day for a single venue. Longer for a larger property, or when you want both day and evening light.
Can we use the images anywhere?
For selling the space, yes: sales decks, the site, listings, the RFP response, social. However you need them. People who appear in the frames are a separate question, answered below.
Do you photograph the space empty or in use?
Both, and they sell differently. Empty shows a planner the room; in use shows them what their event will feel like.
What does it cost?
A full day on site is $5,200. A second photographer is $1,700 a day, rush delivery is $1,000. Shorter days are quoted from there. Send me the date, the venue and the hours and I'll send the number.

Product & food
Do you shoot in a studio or on site?
On site, usually. A plate photographed in the restaurant's own light, on its own table, sells the restaurant as well as the dish. A bottle on a seamless can be done anywhere, including your back room.
How many products or dishes in a session?
A half day covers a menu of eight to twelve dishes, or a product line of similar size, with a couple of angles each. A full day roughly doubles it.
Do we need a stylist?
For food, your kitchen plates it and I photograph it as it comes out. If you want it styled, bring your stylist and I'll work with them. For product, a clean sample and the packaging is enough.
What does it cost?
A full day on site is $5,200. A second photographer is $1,700 a day, rush delivery is $1,000. Shorter days are quoted from there. Send me the date, the venue and the hours and I'll send the number.
Brand
What goes in a brand shoot?
Everything a company needs that isn't an event: the team at work, the building, the details, the process, the things you sell. A half day usually covers a website's worth.
Can we mix this with a portrait day?
Yes, and it's the efficient way to do it. Portraits in the morning, the office and the work in the afternoon, one day on site.
What does it cost?
A full day on site is $5,200. A second photographer is $1,700 a day, rush delivery is $1,000. Shorter days are quoted from there. Send me the date, the venue and the hours and I'll send the number.
