Galas

A gala has to prove it raised what it raised. The room before the doors open, the arrivals, the moment the number goes up, and the dance floor after. I plan the night so each of those gets its frame.

Blue wash, single figure, high color.
Motion blur, color trails.
B&w sax silhouette.
Crowd under color, sash in focus.
Magenta wash, arm raised.
B&w stage wide, room and scale.
B&w audience wide, scale of the room.
B&w performer, air around him.
Guests arriving, movement.
B&w, hat and horn, backlit.
Dance floor, hands up.
B&w costumed pair.
Long tables, guests, depth.
B&w, one face found in a crowd.
Bokeh field b&w, almost abstract.
Joy, single subject, clean.

The room before the doors

Dressed and empty. It's the picture your development team will use for three years of invitations, and it exists for about twenty minutes. I'm there for it.

The program

The honoree, the speaker, the number going up on the screen. The frames a board report needs.

The morning after

A highlight set by the time your thank-you email goes out, so it goes out with pictures in it. Sponsor moments as a separate set, so each sponsor gets theirs the same day.

Who I work with

Associations, foundations and the committees that run their nights. Charity galas are a big part of what I do, and the ones that need the pictures most are the ones with a goal to hit.

Questions I get

When do you arrive?

Before the doors open. The room dressed and empty is the frame your development team uses for the next three years of invitations, and it only exists for twenty minutes.

Do you photograph the program or the party?

Both, and they're different jobs. The program needs the speaker, the honoree and the moment the number is announced. The party needs the dance floor. I plan the night so I'm in the right place for each.

Can sponsors get their own images?

Yes. I note sponsor moments on the run of show and deliver them as a separate set so your sponsorship lead can send each one theirs the next morning.

How fast do we get pictures?

A highlight set the next morning, so your thank-you email goes out with pictures in it. The full gallery within the week.

What does it cost?

It depends on the hours and whether you need a second photographer for a large room. Tell me the date and the venue and I'll send a number.
