What if your event photographer can't make it?

What if your photographer can’t make it?

This is one of the most stressful things about hiring anyone for an event, and for photography it’s a fair question. Short of something serious, I’ll be there. If I were too sick to work, I have a good network of photographers in the area I can call, and we’d sort out a backup for you. I’ve never had to do that.

What if the gear fails?

Everything is set up with redundancy. I carry duplicates of most things, including double coverage of lenses so I always have options, and there’s usually an extra camera in the bag in case one fails.

My cameras all have two card slots, and I shoot so every frame is written to both cards right away. That means a backup is being made constantly, not at the end of the day. I’ve never had to rely on it, but it does happen, and I’d rather have it and not need it.

Why I take it seriously

Photos from my own wedding were lost by the photographer and couldn’t be recovered. It stung, and I don’t want anyone else to go through that.

What to ask any photographer

There are more in the questions to ask before you book an event photographer. And if you’d like to know how the rest of the booking works, here’s the whole path from first email to gallery.
