Planning an event in Richmond’s West End and Short Pump?

Richmond’s West End and Short Pump, out along West Broad Street and I-64 in Henrico County, is where many of the region’s corporate offices sit, so hotel ballrooms here stay busy with trainings, sales meetings and awards dinners. Gardens, a colonial house museum and an arts center add settings with more character close by.

Which venues should you look at?

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden

Lewis Ginter is Richmond’s botanical garden, with a domed Conservatory set behind a formal Central Garden. Its Robins Visitors Center, terraces and other garden venues host corporate meetings, nonprofit events and evening receptions, with discounts listed for corporate and nonprofit groups.

For photos: glass, fountains and seasonal plantings give every season a different backdrop for receptions and group portraits.

The Westin Richmond

The Westin sits on West Broad Street at Reynolds Crossing, among the West End’s office parks and close to I-64. Its ballroom and meeting rooms are a regular choice for corporate trainings, conferences and banquets that want a full-service hotel outside downtown.

For photos: modern ballroom and prefunction spaces photograph cleanly; window light in the public areas helps.

Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa/Short Pump

This Hilton sits next to Short Pump Town Center, off Broad Street and I-64, with a day spa and steakhouse on site. Its Capital Ballroom and more than ten meeting rooms make it one of Short Pump’s larger meeting hotels.

For photos: standard ballroom light; the hotel’s spa and shopping-district setting can add variety to arrival frames.

Richmond Marriott Short Pump

The Marriott on Dominion Boulevard serves the Short Pump and Innsbrook office corridor. Marriott lists five event rooms and a largest space for about 300, sized for regional meetings and company dinners.

For photos: compact ballroom and breakout rooms favor tight, people-focused coverage.

The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen

The Cultural Arts Center on Mountain Road is a nonprofit arts venue in Henrico with a theater, galleries and a ballroom under one roof. It rents its rooms for business meetings, civic gatherings and receptions as well as performances.

For photos: a mix of stage, gallery and ballroom spaces lets a single event move from program to reception with fresh backdrops.

Hardywood West Creek

Hardywood’s second brewery sits in the West Creek business park just west of Short Pump. It books a mezzanine, an outdoor tent, the Stave Cave, a conference room or the whole facility for company gatherings.

For photos: big brewhouse space and an outdoor tent give relaxed, bright frames for team events.

Wilton House Museum

Wilton was built in 1753 along the James River and was taken apart and rebuilt in the West End by the Colonial Dames in 1933 to save it from industrial growth. Today it is a museum of colonial architecture and decorative arts with lawns above the river, and it lists private events among its offerings.

For photos: paneled Georgian rooms and riverside lawns suit small receptions and executive gatherings.

How do you plan the photos?

Once the venue’s set, the rest gets easier. Event photography pricing lays out the rates, how many hours you need helps size the day, and the event photography shot list covers what to capture. Planning a multi-day program? Here’s how I work as a conference photographer. For a company gathering, corporate event photography shows the work. If the whole team is in one place, it’s a good day for corporate portraits. If you’re bringing a team from DC, how to book an event photographer walks through the steps.
