Planning an event in Dupont Circle and Embassy Row?
Dupont Circle and Massachusetts Avenue’s Embassy Row are lined with Gilded Age mansions, many now embassies, clubs and museums. The area pairs those grand houses with two of the city’s most famous hotel ballrooms.
Which venues should you look at?
Washington Hilton
A landmark 1965 hotel on Connecticut Avenue with more than 118,000 square feet of event space. Its International Ballroom has hosted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner since 1968 and black-tie galas for more than 2,600.
For photos: huge column-free ballroom; elevated positions help with crowd wides.
The Mayflower Hotel, Autograph Collection
A historic Connecticut Avenue hotel that opened in 1925 and marked its centennial in 2025. Its Grand Ballroom hosted Calvin Coolidge’s inaugural ball and later inaugural events.
For photos: gilded ballroom and grand promenade give a classic, formal setting.
The Dupont Circle Hotel
A modern hotel right on Dupont Circle, part of the Doyle Collection. It handles meetings and receptions with the circle outside its windows.
For photos: contemporary rooms with circle views; good for smaller events.
Anderson House
A Beaux-Arts mansion on Embassy Row, headquarters of the Society of the Cincinnati and its American Revolution Institute. It opens for select corporate and private events, with a ballroom, winter garden and outdoor garden.
For photos: marble, murals and the winter garden make elegant settings for dinners.
The Phillips Collection
An art museum near Dupont Circle that opened in 1921, known as America’s first museum of modern art. It rents spaces for private events among its galleries.
For photos: intimate galleries and art backdrops; mind the museum lighting rules.
Heurich House Museum
A Gilded Age mansion built for brewer Christian Heurich, often called the Brewmaster’s Castle. Its conservatory and garden rent for receptions and meetings.
For photos: victorian interiors and garden give a rich, textured look.
Meridian International Center
Two 1920s mansions, Meridian House and the White-Meyer House, on a campus near Meridian Hill. Both host corporate conferences, receptions and special events by appointment.
For photos: elegant rooms and walled gardens suit receptions and group portraits.
How do you plan the photos?
A good venue makes good pictures easier. If you’re comparing quotes, start with event photography rates and how many hours of coverage you really need. Then see the work: conference photography, corporate events and charity gala photography. With everyone in one place, it’s also a good day for team portraits. In the city, see DC-area venues that photograph well, and for advocacy days, Hill Day photography.
What else is nearby?
Event venues nearby: Downtown DC, Georgetown, Capitol Hill. For event photography in Dupont Circle and Embassy Row and nearby, see event photographer in Washington, DC.
