What does “photographer near me” really mean?
Most people typing it want someone who can actually get there, show up on time and be easy to work with. Everyone has a favorite, but the one that matters on your day is usually the one close to you.
Why is the nearest photographer usually the best fit?
A friend of mine had just moved to New York City, and I asked him what his favorite bagel was. He paused for a second and said everyone tells you that this bagel or that bagel is the best. But he said the best bagel is the one that’s nearest to you.
I haven’t forgotten that, because I have my own preferences for bagels, and I think a lot of people have preferences for photographers. But the reality is that the nearest photographer is probably going to win and be the most helpful.
What does being close save you?
Time, mostly. A nearby photographer can see the venue before the day, answer a last-minute question and be there when plans change. Inside the DC metro there’s no travel line on your budget. Beyond it, travel is set per contract.
How close am I?
I’m based in Northern Virginia, and most of my work is around DC. These pages cover the places I work most:
- Washington, DC, Arlington, Alexandria and Tysons
- Fairfax County, Reston, Loudoun County and Ashburn
- Bethesda, Prince William County and Middleburg
How do you find a nearby photographer?
Look for recent local work, and ask to see a full album from the past year. How to choose an event photographer and questions to ask any event photographer go through what to look for.
What should I send you?
The date, the venue and what the photos are for, and I’ll tell you honestly whether I’m the right fit.
